Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
The upgrade to an item lets players increase the level of their equippable items such as weapons, armor and trinkets over a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.
Upgrade components are inserted into equipment to offer attributes bonuses and other effects. Most of these upgrades are slot-restricted but some are universal.
Rerolling
A player can reroll an upgrade for an item in Diablo 4. This is done through the Level Up feature, which suspends the game and displays four randomly chosen upgrades. The player can choose one of the upgrades to continue fighting. Rerolling costs similar to a normal Level Up. However, players must be careful when choosing an upgrade because they will not know what the new stats will be until the item is being rerolled.

This method is sometimes referred to as hyperolling, and may be an option for players who are looking to improve their game.
To reroll an item, players first need to unlock the upgrade Reroll in the shop. The player is able to select the Reroll upgrade at the bottom of their Level Up menu after the upgrade has been unlocked. The player is able to reroll up to 10 times per battle. After rerolling an item, its weight will remain unchanged. However its base power and upgrades are reset. After rolling, the item can still be enchanted.
Genshin Impact allows players to purchase and use other mechanics in addition to rerolling to improve their gacha results. Sets

There are also some exclusive and set items that don't need upgrading due to their inherently low requirements or advantages from upgrading (e.g. Goldwrap Naj's puzzler staff.
There are a few sets that have set bonuses that add effects when Link wears the entire set. They are beneficial in certain situations, for instance when exploring the Gerudo Desert or in a Dungeon. The Desert Voe Set, for example, has an Stealth Up feature that makes it easier to sneak by enemies.
There are also universal upgrades that can be fitted into any type of equipment. These upgrades provide fewer rewards than the ones that are restricted to certain types however, they are more easy to obtain. Some of these upgrades are gems, which can be crafted in a jeweler and can be used in any trinket slot. Other upgrade components are inorganic augmentations that can be slotted into weapon accessories, and they provide a small bonus that does not increase the damage.
Requirements
Upgrades are a key element in boosting the strength and efficiency of your characters in battle. Upgrades can increase an item's stats, or add a prefix or suffix. The amount of stats an item can upgrade depends on its rarity. Upgrades are available in dungeons, raids or bought from vendors. You can also obtain them as a random item or by looting other players.
There's no tenable game design solution to the problem of the "not worth it" feeling that some players feel about upgrading certain items. Ideally, the game would provide more information about upgrades in its compare interface, such as "X stats gained and lost X stats." But, this is not practical to implement because of how many layers of complexity are involved in the comparison process. There is simply not enough space to do it properly within the UI.
A script that examines the requirements of an item's upgrade before allowing the item to be upgraded is an alternative solution. This method is suitable for systems that have a limited number of items that can be upgraded and a simple upgrade dependence. A sword can be upgraded from Sword+1 to Sword+2. A script could examine the Item Definition attribute for each upgrade and then create an Item Status of "upgraded" to show that the upgrade was valid.
This method is more flexible than the previous two however it requires some extra code. It is less suitable for systems with complex requirements.
Another option is to let players modify their weapons and armor by applying certain upgrades. These upgrades are known as reforges. They increase the item's stats while reducing the cost. Reforges' power varies, but the Orb of Transmutation or Orb of Embrace are the most powerful.
Costs
Upgrades to gear can boost its physical power, spell power, and health (for armor and rings) or provide bonuses while it's in your inventory. You can obtain upgrade components by crafting or buy them from vendors. You can also loot or drop them from other players or get them as reward. Upgrade components can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets. They can also be attached to tools for gathering. Most upgrade components can only be replaced using an Upgrade Extractor. However, there are exceptions for glyphs, which can be salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Upgrades to an item can cost gold and/or Dilithium, depending on the item type. In addition, many upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests needed to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. Upgrades to the highest upgrade level is expensive, especially when you're upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades can also modify a weapon's ammunition, or damage die size. They can also alter its special weapon properties, such as its unwieldy or operative property, or hand requirement. Certain upgrades can alter the appearance of a weapon.
While boosting stats is the primary goal of upgrading items but you should take into consideration the costs associated with upgrading an item before making the decision. You might want to make use of your gold to upgrade rare items, but don't spend it on ordinary or items of the magic-tier. The upgrading of these items wastes precious resources, and you'll quickly discover that rare gear is superior to them.
